Resolution vs. Intention: Part two; How to make your New Years resolutions last

"You will never be satisfied apart from Christ because nothing of this world will ever fulfill your needs."

Hey Friends!

Welcome to The Avenue, where we are making our way to the way maker.

In case you missed part one of the series;

Resolution vs. Intention; How to make your New Years resolutions last

Here is the link:

Many people make resolutions at the start of January. And studies have shown by February, almost 80 percent will have failed. I believe this number is so high because of a lack of three things.

Keep reading if you want to learn the second thing we need to reach our goals in 2020!

2) Be in alignment with Jesus

You will never be satisfied apart from Christ because nothing of this world will ever fulfill your needs.

John 15:4-5

"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

Believe it or not, God doesn't desire what you want.

Whaaattttt? Yes, I know!

Here's why

Because we are not perfect, and aside from christ, there is nothing we can do that's good. Therefore everything that we want is of our flesh.

Psalm 37:4

"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

A lot of people look at this verse and think, "well, I want this, so why isn't God giving it to me?"

-Because sometimes God withholds what you think you want for what you need.

God does desire what we want WHEN we delight in Him.

Because our desires are no longer ours, they are His.

Romans 8:5

"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."

Your heart will shift from, "God, I want this" to "God if it's not for me; I don't want it."

God would rather withhold your desires than give you a blessing that would withhold what he desires to give you.

- I have a Goldendoodle who loves to be in the kitchen way too much. And when we sit down at the table for dinner, she will nudge her little nose under our arms begging for food. And when we don't give it to her, she'll start to cry, even though she has a pile of food in her bowl.

And in her eyes, we are withholding something good, and she cries because she doesn't understand why we can't give her people food.

But it's because we LOVE her so much that we don't allow her to have things she thinks she wants because we know that it could harm her.

And a moment of her satisfaction could turn into her last moment if we gave her everything she wants.

That is what it's like when we desire something apart from God, and then get mad when we don't have it.

But it's because he LOVES you so much! That he would withhold what you think you want for the blessing he wants to give you.

Aren't you glad we serve a God that doesn't give us what we think we want?!

Aren't you thankful for a daddy who will never settle for " your desires" but will wait for the perfect time to bless you?!

Even when we are astray, he is waiting.

Maybe you have goals to overcome something, to budget, to lose weight. These are all things God wants you to desire. But first, you have to step back and align yourself with God.

There is a reason you haven't reached that goal. And it's not because you aren't loved or seen.

It's because you haven't invited God into the situation.

He is waiting to give you all that you desire and more. But he first needs your heart.

The more you align yourself with his word, the more you will walk in discipline, and the more God will start to give you the desires of your heart.

Keep pressing in. All of heaven is for you!
