As the clock strikes midnight of every new year, we enter into a new season full of expectation and hope. We set new goals for ourselves with every intent to fulfill them. But what happens when we don't achieve them, or things don't go as planned?
I think it's safe to say that this was all of 2020.
It was a huge oxymoron. The best worst year I've ever had.
It was filled with anxiety and perfect peace all at once. Much like taking care of a garden, I was planting new things and pulling the weeds out at the same time. Making room for the new things Jesus was doing and getting rid of the things that no longer had a place in my life.
My heart was heavy.
But in the midst of it all, there was something that never changed, never wavered, or fell short.
"Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever." - Hebrews 13:8
So, no matter what crazy life event 2021 will throw at you, let me encourage you that Jesus will always be who He says He is.
Here are three reminders to encourage yourself with when things aren't going as planned:
1- Even when you fail, He is still proud to call you His
Give yourself grace.
But don't stop seeking Him.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." - Lamentations 3:22-23
Because He holds every day, know that every day His grace and mercy are already there.
God is for you, even when we can't see it.
He has a plan, and you have a purpose.
Don't give up!
Your direction is more important than your speed.
2- Even when you feel weak, He is strong
"He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless."
Allow Him to do in you what you can't do in yourself. It's through our greatest struggles we can find Gods greatest strength.
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
- 2 Corinthians 12:9
The definition of weak, according to Google, means "lacking physical strength and energy." And often, we think of being weak as being defeated. But being weak is what sets us up for deliverance.
Let this encourage you.
Being weak is when we get to see how strong the Lord is!
It does not mean you are defeated.
Like David defeating Goliath, it may have seemed like at the moment, all odds were against Him, but God showed up where He was weak and made Him strong.
Psalms 46:1 says this, " God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. "
3- Even if everything goes bad, Jesus is still good
"The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him and He helps me." — Psalms 28:7-8
Trust Him and His plans for you.
God isn't asking us to figure it all out; He is asking us to trust that He already has.
"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." - Proverbs 16:9
So with every " No" you get this year, remember this, God isn't withholding anything from you; He is holding onto something better for you.
His plans for you are good!
And if the ending isn't good, it's not the end.
