Mark 12:30 " And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."

What does it mean to have a healthy mind in Christ?

I would encourage you to seek this deeper for yourself and ask God what He wants to reveal to you about this topic. God talks to everybody differently and my hope is that this would help spark a conversation you would have with the Lord.

So, Let's dive in!

How to have a healthy mind in Christ...

1) Renew your thinking.

Romans 12:2

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

The enemy has been out to manipulate our minds from the beginning of time. Starting with the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 2: 16 - 17

"The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."

Now let's flash forward...

It's in Genesis 3:1, we then hear the serpent ask Eve, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"

They then proceed to have a conversation in Genesis 3: 3 - 6,

"Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden," the woman replied. "It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, 'You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'"

"You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman. "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil. The woman was convinced."

From the time God created us, the enemy has been after your thoughts. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) your mental awareness. Why? Because He knows we were created to worship and multiply the Kingdom of God. So he will do whatever he can to make you stop doing both of these things.

The enemy tried to manipulate Eve into thinking she needed to eat from that tree in order to be like God. But what Eve didn't realize is that she already was like God—made in His image.

The Lord said, if they ate from the tree, they will "surely die." But then why didn't they die after they ate it? Because it wasn't their physical body enduring death, it was what happened to their spirit. They suddenly felt shame where there was no shame. Their eyes were exposed to things of this world.

Genesis 3:7

"Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves."

It's no secret that the enemy wants to keep you in a place of believing lies about yourself. Making you think that you have to work for your worth.

How many times have we gone against what we knew was right to please somebody or change something about ourselves for other people to like us? I can be the first to admit I struggled with this all the time!

So how do we renew our minds to believing the truth?

Believe you are made new. And don't allow yourself to think otherwise.

Eve allowed the enemy to control her mind into thinking she needed something she didn't have. And that is still the enemy's plan today. But we don't have to give him authority over our minds.

Ephesians 4:22-24

"To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness."

2) Recognize who controls your actions

Think before you speak ( Ecclesiastes 5:2)

The more you start to acknowledge the plan of the enemy, the more your eyes will be opened to recognize the plans Gods has for your life. The enemy has an agenda. And He will do whatever it takes to make you think he doesn't.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete."

Being aware of your thoughts and actions gives you the ability to have better self-control. Allowing the enemy not to have any strongholds against you.

1 Peter 1:13

" Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope, fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

We have to think about what it is that's causing that emotion before we act on it.

That sentence has changed my life. (Like, no, for real, you don't even know!!)

The enemy will use the smallest things to trigger you.

So you act out of a place of anger and not of love.

I've written a blog about this point before and I'm writing this again because It's SO important!

I believe this is the biggest reason people have a hard time getting past forgiveness and being able to grow deeper with God. They blame all their hurt and pain in this world on God.

But let me remind you. God is not the bad guy here!

Genesis 3:11 The Lord said, " WHO told you that you were naked? " I had the honor of watching Christine Caine preach a sermon on shame last year. And my biggest takeaway from it was this; Every time you start to believe a lie about yourself, say out loud, "WHO TOLD YOU THAT." And although it may sound so silly. This was the very question The Lord asked Adam and Eve in the garden. Why? Because I believe He wanted to address the fact that God never made them feel ashamed or naked. The enemy did that.

If you feel far from God, it is not because God isn't near. It's because you aren't looking for Him.

Don't allow the enemy to control your actions. You have the choice to run back to God. And the enemy has no power in HELL to stop you.

3) Release your emotions back to God.

You don't buy a Toyota and take it to the Mazda dealership to get fixed. Why? Because they didn't make it. So, why are we trying to go to other sources that didn't create us to tell us who we are. When you hand over everything to God, you will see Gods hand in everything. I don't care how old you are or how long you have been walking with Christ.

People that walk around saying, " well that's just how I am". Are spending their life working for something already paid for.

Would you buy a house and then live on the front lawn? That's what it's like when people let their emotions control them outside of the will of God.

If you're mad at God. He knows.

If you're hurt. He knows.

If you've given up on Him. He knows.

If you've stopped believing in His healing power. He knows.

Adam and Eve were so wrapped up in shame that they hid from God. They didn't want to face the fact that they went against God. Maybe that's you.

Psalm 139:4

"Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether."

HE knows.

But here is what you need to know!

In the midst of your pain, your brokenness, Genesis 3:9 says, "But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?"

Why would an all-knowing God ask where Adam and Eve are?

Because I believe He wanted us to know that no matter what you've done or what you're feeling. He is looking for you. And He will never stop looking for you.

Whatever emotion your feeling at this moment. Would you just give it back to God?

Would you allow Him room to come restore your heart, take captive of every thought, and align your actions with His will?

The more we practice how to have a healthy mind in Christ.

The better we love ourselves and the better we're able to love other people.

Let this be your prayer:

Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!"
