HOW TO GIVE GOD YOUR FIRST 5 MINUTES

For something to grow, you must water it. So taking the time to talk to God is essential if you want a relationship with Him. When you don't make room for Jesus, you allow the enemy to have free rent. Keeping you in debt to things already paid for.

So many people want more of God but won't stop long enough to let His voice be heard. Give yourself time to be still. Now more than ever, you have the time to sit, to listen, and to let the distractions of the world fade away.

I've always said I'm not a morning person, and maybe some of you can relate. You hit the snooze alarm about ten times before you get up and pray that you still have enough time to get yourself ready for work. ( okay, maybe it's just me)

But when you get to wake up in a posture of praise, your attitude starts to change.

Before you jump out of bed and grab your phone to scroll through your newsfeed, take just five minutes, and talk to God.

Don't know what to pray? Well, you're in luck!

Keep scrolling to read more about how to spend those 5 minutes with God and walk away filled with more of His presence.

MIN 1- Be still, invite God into the atmosphere.

Put yourself in a quiet place, even if that's locking yourself in your bathroom or parked car. Allow yourself to sit in complete silence. This is so important. Believe it or not, silence is an essential part of praying. Because sometimes the voices in your head are louder than the ones around you.

Do this with me! Ready? Inhale ...... 123....... exhale.... 123

Didn't that feel nice!

We GET to give him back these 60 seconds! How sweet of Jesus, that He gave us the ability to sit in his presence.

When you make the world around you talk a little softer, you'll hear Jesus a little louder.

Invite him in; use this minute to ask the Holy Spirit to come mute the world around you. Prayer isn’t a monolog it’s a dialog. Make sure you give time for God to speak to you.

"Be still and know that I am God" - Psalm 46:10

MIN 2- Thank Him for who He is and who we get to be in Him.

Remembering to thank him for what He has done for you will start to make everything you may be going through seem not as big. Your troubles that seem impossible will start to feel possible again. Take this minute to thank him for being your savior, your healer, redeemer, the list goes on. Who is God to you? What does He mean to your life? Use this next 60 seconds to answer those questions.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever." - Psalm 136:1

MIN 3- Ask him to expose any weak area in your life that isn't glorifying Him.

Be vulnerable with God. Use this time to say out loud anything you know you need to give to Him. God is all-knowing; there is nothing you can hide from him. So any shame, hurt, or even anger, let Him have it. He wants to trade the whole in your heart for His joy. Ask Jesus to search your heart and make it align with His.

" Examine me, O Lord, and try me; Test my mind and my heart." - Psalm 26:2

MIN 4- Take time to say a prayer for somebody else.

If God answered all your prayers, how many people would be affected by them? Prayer is powerful. Use this time to ask God to put somebody on your heart that you know needs prayer. Maybe you already have that one person. Ask them how you can pray for them. There is something so powerful in praying for people who don't know you're praying for them. Not every battle is on display; you may never see the weight of which your prayers are affecting somebody.

" Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." - 3 John 1:2

MIN 5 - Praise him for the unknown, the prayers yet answered.

God isn't a God of time. Pray in confidence that He will do what he says He will do. Allow your faith to be bigger than your fears. Thank him for the miracles that haven't happen or the breakthrough in your family that has yet to come. Praise him for that addiction yourself or somebody you know hasn't broken off yet. Proclaim that "even if we can't see it," He is still good. The enemy has to flee at the mention of His name. What you allow your mouth to manifest, your mind will start to believe.

"For we live by faith, not by sight." - 2 Corinthians 5:7

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13

"But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

5 minutes of praying, DONE!!

300 seconds of giving your best back to God.

You won't regret it!

Maybe your a new believer or perhaps just having a hard time talking to God: Pray scripture. Reading the book of Psalms is a perfect way to pray when you can't find the words. God is not worried about how many minutes you spend talking to him. He just wants to hear your voice.

If that's you, start with a couple of minutes and go from there. And before you know it, praying will not be something you want to do, it will be something you need to do because nothing else in the world will give you the same peace.

No matter how many minutes you give him, all that matters is that you feed your spirit every day. Don't allow your spirit to become anorexic. Your spirit yearns to be filled with more of God. It becomes hungry and thirsty for more in the same way your flesh does. So which one are you going to feed more? Which one will you let overtake you?

Use this break to give God back your best! Align your heart with His will.

Let's pray!

(Psalm 23 4-6)

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for being my shepherd, for giving me everything I need. For even if I stray from you, you lead me on the right path. I thank you for restoring my strength and for comforting me. That I never have to fear because you are with me all of my days. Your goodness and mercy will never leave me. You are good. Thank you, Jesus, for all that you are and all that I get to be in you. Amen
