Mark 11:24 - " Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

What is it and how do we do it?

Some people think of prayer, and automatically, think about church, or sitting around the dinner table. But what would happen if you saw prayer differently?

If you needed prayer just as much as your phone...

If you needed prayer just as much as you needed money...

Prayer is a weapon often underrated by its power.

We need prayer just as much as we need the breath in our lungs.

It is our lifeline to heaven on earth.

Not praying is like having a car and wanting to go places but never taking the time to fill up on gas to take you there. Without it, the car serves no purpose.

Just like when a Christian believes but doesn't take the time to seek a relationship. You will continue to run on empty and limit the things God is trying to do in your life.

You can go to church all you want, but until you open the bible and start praying Gods word over your life, you won't be able to go where God wants to take you.

Prayer doesn't have to be intimidating.

There is no script to follow; there is no specific time or place.

You just simply talk to him.

The same way you would talk to your friends.

In fact, most days, praying to Him is the only way I get through the day.

Prayer was the key that completely unlocked my relationship with God.

Allowing me to step into a life I was blinded to before I knew Him.

So, how did I unlock this prayer life?

Glad you asked!

Jesus gives us the perfect way to have an effective prayer life in Matthew 6: 6 - 8,

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

What do we learn from this?

When you pray, you are to "close the door" to shut off any distractions around you—allowing Gods voice to be the loudest.

Pray in secret. This doesn't mean you cannot pray in public or over groups of people. It means when you spend time with God, you are to go to that secret place of longing for intimacy with him.

Maybe you are a new believer and don't know what to pray, or perhaps you just are going through a hard time and are at a lack of words.

This was me trying to navigate what it meant to have intimacy with the Lord. I knew Jesus but I didn't always know how to really talk to him.

So, here is some good news!

Jesus not only gave us a way to pray, but He also shows us what we can pray.

Matthew 6: 9-13

"9 This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

Some of you are probably thinking, I've prayed this multiple times in church. This is nothing new.

How can this prayer change your life if it hasn't before?

Let me tell you! When you start to understand what your praying, it's no longer just reciting something out loud in church. It's proclaiming boldly in faith, that God is who He says He is, and He will do what He says He will do!

So, let's break this down!

It starts with " Our Father," " hallowed be your name."

This shows us first to address the Father, and praise His name! To thank Him for who He is and What he has done for us. If Jesus isn't first in your life, you're choosing to bow down to another name than His. Let Him be Lord over your life. And watch what He will do!

-Pray that Jesus would take the throne of your heart. That he would be first in everything you do! And everything else has to be second to Him.

It then continues with, " Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

This is a big statement. Allowing yourself to be positioned in a place of surrendering your will to God, to let His work be done, is a powerful prayer.

Sometimes we tend to cling to the things that make us feel comfortable. But God didn't call us to live a life content with being in the same place. So by declaring His will over your life, you're giving God access to have complete authority over your heart.

-Pray that God would show you any area in your life that you are keeping from Him. That you would trust Him with the things unknown and submit to His will.

This leads to the meaning of the next verse, "Give us today our daily bread."

When you allow God to have authority over your life, you'll start to desire to see more of Him.

Spending time with God is supposed to be daily.

Prayer should not be like cake on special occasions, but as your daily need to survive.

Ephesians 6:18-

"18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."

-Pray that God would reveal himself to you every single day and show you what you need. That you would never grow tired of hearing His voice and wanting more.

The next line reads, "And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."

This not only states that God gives us grace, but that we as Gods people need to give grace.

This should be something you pray over yourself every day.

James 5:16 - "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."

The enemy loves to allow us to be stuck in places of unforgiveness, to prevent us from seeing the love and grace of our Father.

Praying for forgiveness even before we fail and declaring you have forgiven people even before you need to forgive them. Will allow you to see Gods promises over pain. Giving the enemy no room to attack you with shame or guilt.

-Pray that God would show you how to extend grace the way He does for us. To reveal to you any part of you holding on to unforgiveness or anger.

The scripture ends with, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

Ask God for the strength to fight against your flesh. This prayer is not just about asking if God can deliver you from the enemy. Because Jesus has already won every battle, you have faced and going to face.

This is about crying out to the Lord and declaring that the enemy will have no place. That we, as Gods children, won't be slaves to fear. That He would remind us whose we are. And that temptation will not be a stronghold over us!

Matthew 26:41- "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

-Pray that the Lord would supply you with the strength to face each day. That you would allow God to position your heart to be surrendered to His will. That Jesus would deliver you of your flesh and worldly desires and trade it for his truth.

Now let's read this prayer again. Out loud, making it your personal cry to the Lord!

"My Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Would your kingdom come, and your will be done over my life, on earth as it is in heaven. Would you give me today as my daily bread. And forgive me of my debts, as I also have forgiven my debtors. And lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from the evil one. Amen"

Start to speak truth over you and declare freedom.

Pray His word over your life and watch Him move the mountains before you!

I am a walking testimony of what God can do when you choose to put Him first and pray His will.

And I know for a fact, He is waiting for you to be able to say the same thing!

So, would you receive the key God has given you, and use it to access the places He wants to show you...

All of heaven is for you.
