The other day I was washing my car, and as I cleaned it, the tree in my front yard kept deciding it was an excellent time to shed some weight, causing my car to be decorated ever so slightly with brown leaves. I eventually gave up and let the tree have its way. But it got me thinking. This is what it's like when you walk with Jesus.
Constantly striving to be perfect, making ourselves mad in the meantime. But forgetting it's inevitable. No matter what I did, the leaves were going to fall regardless. And it was at that moment I realized a bigger picture.
Without even having to try, we will sin to a fault. And sometimes we find ourselves trying to clean up the mess from the season before while we're still sitting in the same place, just fighting a different battle. Hoping like the tree, we don't shed on the people closest to us, getting them just as dirty in the process.
But the good news is... we can choose to move!
The problem was not the tree; it was the location of my car.
Sin is inevitable, but so is Gods grace.
When you are a child of God, you can't escape His grace and love for you, no matter how hard you try!
Sometimes we sit in the same place covered by a different sin, wondering why we can't find freedom.
But He gave us the key to start the engine!
To ignite your purpose over your life and move you to where He wants to take you.
God isn't worried about you not being perfect; he is after you being productive in your purpose.
Today, at this moment, people are frantically buying all the hand soap (& for whatever reason toilet paper) in bulk all over the world to ensure they are clean and safe from this pandemic around us.
But I believe there is something deeper to this that we may be missing...
After I finally got my car clean, I realized I still had some work to do. Because although the outside had been cleaned, the inside of my car was covered in much more than leaves.
And in order to move the car, you have first to open it, allowing the inside to be exposed.
You can wash your hands all you want, but until you open your heart and clean yourself from the inside out, you can't walk out in the purpose God wants to fullfill in you.
Matthew 23:26. - "First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean."
So, my question for you today is: do you believe you have clean hands?
Psalm 51:10 says this, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."
You can have clean hands and still be wearing dirty clothes.
The same way you can say you're clean and not have a pure heart.
But can I tell you something, Jesus has already paid the way for your cleanliness!
1 John 1:7, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."
So, in a world that is so focused on washing your hands right now, could we focus on cleaning much more than the outward flesh.
But cry out to our father, and ask Him to renew a right spirit within us.
That we may have eyes opened up to see what He wants us to see. And move where He wants us to move.
Romans 12:2- "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
We are made clean not by hand soap, but by the blood of Jesus!
So, proclaim it over yourself, your life, your family, your kids!
Hebrews 9:14 - "How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God."
Acknowledge your sin and your need for God. Open your heart towards Him, remove yourself from whatever situation is holding your purpose hostage, and ask Jesus to come do a new thing in you!
All over the world right now, God is restoring Hope in people who may have lost all hope.
And maybe you're one of those people.
Let me encourage you with this, He is not just making dirty hands clean, he is making dead people come alive in Him.
Because to restore something means that it had to be whole in the first place.
When God made us in His image He said " it is good". (Genesis 1:31)
So, In the midst of the craziness would you not lose sight of the one who already overcame the world. Because at the end of the day, nothing is going to be your savior but Jesus.
I know my hands are clean, not because of what I've done but what Christ did for me!
" He saved us,not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior " - Titus 3:5-6
