3 LIES YOU NEED TO STOP HOLDING ONTO ABOUT LOVE

Updated: Feb 15

Lie one: You'll be happier when you're in a relationship.

Let me first start by saying, things can make you happy, and people can make you happy. But being happy is a moment. Being joyful is a lifetime.

A new relationship can make you happy. But what will sustain you?

In John 16:22. it says, "No one will take your joy from you."

Joy comes from the Lord. It is a fruit of the Spirit. We never lose it; we just choose to allow other things to try and give us what only the Lord can.

You can be happy without being joyful. But happiness is something that can come and go. True joy will never waiver.

So don't look for a man to bring you something that can only satisfy you for the moment. But instead, look to the Man that can give you a Joy that nobody can take away!!

You will not magically become happier when dating somebody. It might appear that way at first. But true joy is found when we aren't happy.

When you're going through a hard time and life isn't the best. It's in those moments we find Joy. It's in those moments you will be more fulfilled than any other person giving you a moment of "happy."

Why? Why would I say in hard times, we find joy...

Because joy is a reflection of the one who lives in you, happiness is an emotion we feel based on circumstance.

So, when things don't go as planned, we can still choose joy, even when we aren't happy because we get to choose Jesus.

And if you don't choose to be filled with the Joy of the Lord before you start dating, you will put an expectation on somebody who will never satisfy you.

Lie two: Your husband will complete you.

My husband will never be my number one.

He will never be my source of happiness.

He will never make me whole.

WHY? Because only Jesus can do that!

When you make him your one, God will give you your two.

Your partner.

Your teammate.

Your best friend.

My favorite part about dating my boyfriend is that he knows that he can never fill my heart the way Jesus can.

Colossians 1:17 says, " He is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together."

So instead of putting unrealistic pressure on each other, we get to look to Jesus! And Praise God! Because dating is hard. And placing that weight of filling you the way only Jesus can on your significant other only sets you up for failure.

Remember this; Love isn't found in marriage; it's given in marriage.

So make Jesus your first love, and I promise He will never let you down.

Lie three: If I'm single, somethings wrong with me

To all my single ladies!!

Being single is better than a bad marriage.

Being single is better than a toxic relationship.

Don't get into a relationship because you are tired of being single or alone.

Again, He will never complete you.

He will not bring you sustainable happiness.

There is so much beauty in the waiting.

Ask the Lord to reveal to you what He has put on your heart to do in this season. Abide and trust in Him. Psalm 37:4 says, "Take delight in the Lord; He will give you your heart’s desires."

But the keywords here are "In the lord." Because your heart can be deceitful, Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked."

If your heart is taking delight in worldly things and you are wondering why the Lord has not given you your heart's desires, it's because they aren't His desires for you.

His plans are better than yours even when we can't see them.

I fasted for an entire year from dating until the Lord told me to do otherwise. And when I did, because I listened in obedience, the Lord was faithful. He gave me my heart's desires because I had taken delight in Him. And I can't put into words how much it was worth the wait!

So, enjoy this season of being intimate with Him, finding your joy, and allowing only Him to complete you!
